I have used spin cast reels for about 50 years and all have bee used in fresh and salt water. All the ones I have, Johnson and Daiwa, are fine reels and still work well since I rinse them well in fresh water after salt use. When I saw the 700i was rated for salt I could not get one quick enough. I have used it a few times and what a reel! I refilled it with Fireline 14 pound line when I first got it and it cast further than imaginable with a Carolina rig and a 1/2 oz. weight. It always works flawlessly and has the most accurate and smooth drag possible. For just plain ole fun and efficient fishing this reel is simply unbeatable. Heck, I bought a 1276SLi for backup and now I can’t figure out which to use. I have to do something I never do, I have to thank Abu Garcia for building these reels.

I replaced a cheap Shakespeare reel with this one hoping to have a solid reel for a while instead of buying another cheap reel. The first time I went out fishing with it I didn’t have any problems. The casting was smooth and the drag was easily adjustable to my needs. However on my last fishing trip I went to cast and the reel locked up completely mid cast. Now it will no longer reel or cast. I tried everything to fix it. It seems as if the button is stuck and will not disengage. With all the reviews I read that raved about how great this reel was, I certainly did not expect to have this kind of problem. Gonna try another Abu reel but my confidence in their products has definitely gone down.
